WASHINGTON – Hyundai-Kia America Technical Center Inc. is issuing two vehicle safety recalls – one covering 199,118 2007-2009 model-year Hyundai Santa Fe crossover SUVs and another covering 22,512 2012-2013 model-year Hyundai Sonata sedans. Both recalls will address airbag issues, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.

The Santa Fe recall covers vehicles manufactured from April 19, 2006 through July 7, 2008. The occupant classification system (OCS) may need recalibration to accurately detect small-statured adult occupants. To remedy the problem, dealers will update the classification software free of charge.

The Sonata recall covers vehicles manufactured from January 24, 2012 through June 21, 2012. The curtain side airbags on these vehicles may inflate without deployment command because of an error during manufacturing. Dealers will resolve the problem by replacing the curtain side airbags free of charge.

Vehicle owners can reach Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151.
