Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 2,100 2017 to 2018 Ford Taurus sedans that operate with a physical key because the ignition key can be removed when the gearshift is not in the "park" position.

Removing the key while the transmission gearshift is in "drive," "reverse," or "neutral" could result in a rollaway, increasing the risk of an accident.

To remedy the problem, dealers will replace the shifter assembly at no charge to owners.

Affected vehicles include 2017-2018 Ford Taurus vehicles with a physical key and non-push button start that were built at Chicago Assembly Plant from July 21 to Feb. 13.

Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries associated with this safety compliance recall. The Ford reference number for this recall is 18C02.
