SAIC-GM-Wuling unveiled the Wuling Hong Guang S3, its first SUV to the Chinese market.

SAIC-GM-Wuling, the joint venture between SAIC Motor, General Motors, and Liuzhou Wuling Motors Co Ltd., unveiled the Hong Guang S3 at Auto Shanghai 2017. It will join the Hong Guang nameplate, which sold approximately 640,000 units in 2016, according to General Motors.

The Hong Guang S3 was developed on the same platform as its sibling, the Hong Guang compact multi-purpose vehicle. Positioned as a compact seven-seater, it has a 2,800-mm (110 inch) wheelbase, along with a length of 4,654 mm (183 inches), width of 1,731 mm (68 inches), and height of 1,777 mm (69 inches).

Available black-painted headlights can concentrate the vehicles light beam without blinding other drivers, according to the automaker. Fog lamps and LED daytime running lights are integrated on the sides of the bumper.

The vehicle is available with two engine options: a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine and a 1.5L turbocharged engine.

The Hong Guang nameplate has been popular among small and intermediate enterprises, as well as private entrepreneurs, for personal and business use, according to the automaker.
