The 2017-model year Buick Envision AWD compact SUV has earned a five-star overall vehicle score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration — an accolade achieved by every Buick model rated for two consecutive model years.

To qualify for NHTSA’s five-star overall rating, the Envision scored five stars in the side crash evaluation and four stars in both the frontal crash and rollover evaluations. MGA Research conducted the testing back on Sept. 27 as part of the federal safety agency’s New Car Assessment Program. NHTSA is an agency within the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Earlier this year, the Envision earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s 2016 Top Safety Pick+ award when equipped with optional front crash prevention. That rating was just extended into the 2017 calendar year. The Envision with optional front crash prevention and high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights on Dec. 8 was named a 2017 IIHS Top Safety Pick+.

The Envision offers several standard and available safety features, both active and passive. These safety technologies use a combination of five cameras and 13 radar and ultrasonic sensors around the vehicle. The Envision also has a robust body structure that incorporates mass-reducing high-strength steel.
