Sales of vehicles to commercial fleets from nine manufacturers increased 21% to 58,867 units in February from a year ago on the strength of sales of trucks, vans, and SUVs.

Non-rental commercial fleets purchased 28% more vehicles in the truck category than a year ago with 49,328 units. Passenger car sales continued to lag with a 5.7% decline to 9,539 units from a year ago.

Year-to-date commercial fleet sales have increased 15.4% to 105,834 units on the strength of truck sales that have increased 18.2% to 88,986 units. Passenger cars have increased 2.7% to 16,848 for the first two months of 2016.
