FCA US has appointed Michael Dahl the automaker’s head of vehicle safety and regulatory compliance, effective Dec. 1.

Dahl replaces Scott Kunselman, who previously announced his decision to retire. Prior to his appointment, Dahl was director of gasoline/diesel engine programs and global powertrain coordination. In that position, he oversaw the development and launch of six new engines, including the award-winning 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6. Previous to that, Dahl was director of supplier quality.

Dahl joined the company in 1985 as part of the Chrysler Institute of Engineering (CIE) program. He has held a series of positions, with an emphasis on powertrain engineering, controls and electronics.

Dahl holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Notre Dame. He also earned an MBA from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Oakland University.
