New York state's top appellate court upheld a plan to roll out as many as 10,000 Nissan NV200 taxis in the coming years, following four years of legal entanglements after Nissan won the contract.

The Court of Appeals in Albany ruled on June 25 that the city's "Taxi of Tomorrow" plan was valid and rejected a challenge by fleet operators to the project, reports Bloomberg News.

Nissan NV200 vans will replace most of the 13,000 yellow cabs in New York City. The compact vans offer sliding doors, rear air bags, and extra luggage space.
