Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling 5,058 2014-2015 model-year Smart Fortwo coupes and convertibles, including 2014-MY electric models, so dealers can replace faulty steering gear mounting bolts, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.

The bolts might break during vehicle operation and affect vehicle handling, NHTSA said. Dealers will replace the defective bolts, free of charge.

Vehicle owners can reach Smart customer service at (800) 762-7887. In 2013, commercial fleets registered 1,468 Smart Fortwo vehicles.
