Hyundai Motor America is recalling 24,400 2015 model-year Genesis sedans because water leaking into the rear combination lamp assemblies might cause problems with gear shifting, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

After water leaks into the rear combination lamps, the driver may start seeing the wrong gear displayed on the instrument panel or may experience a delayed response after switching gears from park to reverse or drive, NHTSA said. Moisture might penetrate the combination lamps during heavy rains or a car wash.

The recalled vehicles were manufactured from Feb. 21, 2014, to Jan. 24 of this year.

To fix the problem, Hyundai dealers will apply pads to prevent water from leaking into the lamp housing.

Vehicle owners can reach Hyundai customer service at (855) 671-3059. Hyundai's number for this recall is 128.
