Nissan is recalling 170,665 2013-2014 model-year Pathfinder, 2014 Pathfinder Hybrid, 2013 Infiniti JX35, 2014 Infiniti QX60 and 2014 Infiniti QX60 Hybrid vehicles, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.

In these SUVs, the hood release cable assembly may have been installed incorrectly. As a result, the latching claw may be prevented from fully engaging, and the secondary latch may remain in the open position when the hood is closed.

If the primary hood latch is released and the secondary latch fails, the hood might open during vehicle operation, NHTSA said, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Nissan dealers will modify the angle of the hood release mechanism to provide additional length to the release cable. There will be no charge for this service.

Vehicle owners can reach Nissan customer service at (800) 647-7261.
