Nissan North America is recalling 52,738 more vehicles so dealers can replace Takata-manufactured passenger-side frontal air bag inflators at risk for rupturing and dispersing metal fragments, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.

This latest recall covers 2003-2004 model-year Nissan Pathfinder, 2004-2006 MY Nissan Sentra, 2003-2005 MY Infiniti FX35 and FX45, 2003-2004 MY Infiniti I35, and 2006 MY Infiniti M35 and M45 vehicles.

The recalled vehicles were originally sold, or are currently registered, in locations with high absolute humidity: Puerto Rico, Hawaii, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, Saipan, American Samoa, Florida and adjacent counties in southern Georgia. Also included are coastal areas of Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.

Upon deployment of the passenger-side frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture. As a result, metal fragments might strike and injure vehicle occupants, NHTSA said.
