Volkswagen has informed its dealers to stop selling approximately 25,000 vehicles equipped with its 1.8L inline-four engine and automatic transmission to repair an oil leak.

Affected 2014 model-year vehicles include the Passat, Jetta, Beetle, and Beetle Convertible. Vehicles produced after Feb. 1 have a defective o-ring that connects to the automatic transmission cooler. The engine is new for the the 2014 model year.

The automaker has not yet notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the defect, according to a statement.

"We have asked our dealers to immediately stop the sale of any affected vehicles," said Volkswagen spokesman Mark Gillies. "We will officially notify NHTSA as soon as possible and will be in contact with customers impacted by this issue."
