General Motors introduced the 2015 Canyon mid-size light-duty truck Saturday on the eve of the Detroit auto show, giving GMC a three-truck lineup when it goes on sale later this year.

The Canyon, a cousin of the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado introduced at the Los Angeles Auto Show, joins GMC's light-duty truck lineup with the redesigned 2014 Sierra 1500 and 2015 Sierra HD.

Initially, the Canyon will be offered with a standard 2.5L inline four providing 193 hp and an optional 3.6L V-6 generating 302 hp. A Duramax 2.8L turbo-diesel will be offered in the 2016 model year.

The Canyon offers a 1,450-pound payload and maximum trailering rating of 6,700 pounds, according to GM.

The truck's three body configurations include an extended cab with a six-foot bed, a crew cab with a five-foot bed, and a crew cab with a six-foot bed. The Canyon is offered in base, SLE, and SLT trim levels. Four-wheel drive will be offered.

Optional OnStar with on-board 4G LTE Wi-Fi can also be added as an option.
