American Honda Motor Co. is recalling 19,197 2014 model-year Acura MDX all-wheel drive SUVs because the bolts that attach the drive shaft to the automatic transmission transfer assembly may not have been properly tightened, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.

The bolts could loosen enough to allow the drive shaft to detach, posing a safety risk, NHTSA said. The recall covers vehicles manufactured from May 6 through Oct. 14 of this year.

Honda dealers will inspect and tighten the drive shaft-attaching bolts as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin this month.

Vehicle owners can reach Honda at 1-800-999-1009 or visit the company’s website at www.recalls.honda.com
