Ford Motor Co. is recalling 2,456 Focus Electric compact cars from the 2012-2014 model years to fix a software failure that may cause the vehicle to stall, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The defect involves the vehicle's powertain control module software that may cause an unexpected loss of power while driving. Vehicles manufactured from Sept. 15, 2011, through Aug. 23 are affected.

Ford dealers will reprogram the power control module at no charge. Ford's recall campaign number is 13S09. Owners may contact Ford's Customer Relationship Center at (866) 436-7332.
