General Motors is recalling 14,930 2013 model-year Chevrolet Malibus because of an electrical issue that poses a fire risk and 44,406 2014 model-year Malibu sedans because of faulty heating, ventilation and air conditioning controls.

The 2013 Malibu recall affects only vehicles equipped with eight-way power front seats and passenger seats. The wiring harness might wear against the seat frame and damage circuit insulation, which could lead to an electrical short and pose a fire risk. Nearly all of these vehicles were sold in the U.S. Dealers will make the necessary repairs free of charge.

The 2014 Malibu recall will allow dealers to fix the HVAC system controls so that defrosting functions perform properly. Though most of these vehicles were sold in the U.S., 1,034 were sold in Canada and 676 in Mexico. Dealers will reprogram the HVAC module free of charge.
