A gas with a chemical composition of three carbon atoms and eight hydrogen atoms. Propane is produced from both natural gas processing and crude oil refining, in roughly equal amounts from each source, according to the Propane Education and Research Council (PERC). In the fleet industry, it can be used as a vehicle fuel.
