Distracted Driving

Distracted driving is unsafe driver behavior, usually because driver is on the phone, texting, eating, or otherwise distracted from driving safely. Many states have banned certain activities, like using a cellphone without a hands-free device or texting, due to the extreme danger.

A 2011 study by the U.S. Department of Transportation showed that enforcement of laws that prohibit use of mobile devices while driving was able to reduce the number of collisions related to distracted driving.
