Volvo will produce a more rugged version of its V90 wagon called the V90 Cross Country that's designed for a tough climate and road conditions akin to what drivers face in Sweden, the automaker has announced.

Volvo will provide more details about the V90 Cross Country later this month. The vehicle will have higher ground clearance and all-wheel drive.

The V90 Cross Country has been designed to cope with the demanding requirements of an extreme Scandinavian climate, including from muddy tracks, knee-deep snow, and long distance highway driving.

The automaker has been producing Cross Country versions of its wagons since 1996.
