An partnership between Mitsubishi and Renault-Nissan that would have brought Mitsubishi back into the mid-size sedan market has stalled, according to a Mitsubishi executive quoted in Automotive News.

Mitsubishi informed its dealers that the plan had reached an impasse on Jan. 25 at an NADA franchise meeting.

In November of 2013, Mitsubishi announced it had struck a deal with the Renault-Nissan alliance that would provide two new sedans Mitsubishi could sell in the U.S. Mitsubishi exited the mid-size segment after the 2012 model year, when it discontinued its Galant. The second sedan produced in the partnership would compete in the full-size segment, the automakers announced at the time.
