ERLANGER, KY – Toyota announced it plans to expand its Huntsville, Ala. engine facility to increase North American production of V-6 engines. The company said this investment will increase engine production at the Huntsville plant to more than 700,000 annually, and will increase total Toyota engine production in the U.S. to more than 1.4 million per year.  The automaker is investing approximately $80 million and will add 125 jobs at the plant.

The Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama (TMMAL) plant currently assembles four-cylinder, V-6 and V-8 engines for eight of 12 vehicles Toyota builds in North America. The automaker said TMMAL is the only one of its plants, globally, to produce these three types of engines in a single facility.

This announcement follows on the heels of other production increase announcements since February including at Toyota plants in Indiana, West Virginia, Canada, and Kentucky.

This investment is part of Toyota's strategy of transitioning its manufacturing of vehicles sold in the North American market to the region, shifting away from overseas manufacturing.
