BMW to Build New X4 at Spartanburg, S.C. Plant
SPARTANBURG, SC – BMW announced that it will invest nearly $900 million in its Spartanburg, S.C. plant and add 300 jobs. The automaker also said it plans to build its new BMW X4 at the plant, expanding the BMW X line.
"I am delighted to announce today, over the next three years, we plan to invest nearly $900 Million U.S. dollars. With this investment, we will be able to produce 350,000 units here in the mid-term," said Frank-Peter Arndt, BMW Group Board Member responsible for Production. "This is one reaction to the rising global demand for our BMW X Models."
Since 1994, BMW said it has expanded the plant four times and produced six different BMW models and their variants (318i, Z3, Z4, X5, X6, X3) there. Employment has grown from 500 in 1994 to more than 7,000 in 2012.
