Daimler AG is recalling approximately 495,000 Mercedes-Benz cars and SUVs in the U.S. because of unexpected deployment of the driver-side front air bag, according to Reuters.

The recall covers 2012-2018 A-, B-, C- and E-Class models and CLA, GLA and GLC vehicles, the news agency reported. These vehicles will also be recalled in the U.K., Canada and Germany for the same problem. The recall will cover more than 1 million vehicles globally.

The air bag malfunction risk is linked to an electrostatic discharge combined with a faulty clock spring and the lack of steering-component grounding. Dealers will resolve the issue at no charge. The problem is unrelated to the Takata air bag recall.
