Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling 646,394 2011-2014 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs so dealers can address a potential brake booster problem, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recalled vehicles had brake booster shields installed as part of an earlier recall campaign. That recall’s intent was to prevent water from entering the brake booster and limiting braking ability. The new recall will allow dealers to verify that the brake booster shield installation was completed correctly, NHTSA said.

If the brake booster shield was not installed properly, the vehicle's braking ability may be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash,” the federal safety agency warned on its website.

Dodge and Jeep dealers will inspect the brake booster shield and make any needed corrections to the installation. There will be no charge for this service.

The recall is expected to begin Nov. 7. Vehicle owners can reach FCA customer service at (800) 853-1403. FCA’s number for this recall is T59.
