Kia Motor Co. is recalling 618,160 2011-2014 Optima, 2012-2014 Sorento, and 2011-2013 Sportage vehicles to address the risk of engine seizing, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“Machining errors during the engine manufacturing process may cause premature bearing wear within the engine,” NHTSA warned on its website. “Bearing wear may result in the engine seizing, increasing the risk of a crash.”

Kia dealers will inspect the engine assembly and replace it if necessary. There will be no charge for this service.

The recall is expected to begin May 25. Vehicle owners can reach Kia customer service at (800) 333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC147.
