Nissan North America is recalling 54,751 Nissan Versa cars in the 2012 model year because degradation of the side-impact sensor connector pins may cause some air bags to deploy unexpectedly if the door is slammed, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The problem affects the curtain and seat-mounted air bags, NHTSA said. To resolve the issue, dealers will install a new jumper harness and replace the side-impact satellite sensors. There will be no charge for this service.

Vehicle owners can reach Nissan customer service at (800) 647-7261.
