Ford Motor Co. is recalling 27,531 2016-2017 Ford Edge, 2016-2017 Lincoln MKX and 2017 Lincoln Continental vehicles in the U.S. to replace the driver frontal air bag modules, the automaker said.

If the driver frontal air bag deploys in one of these vehicles, the air bag may not completely fill — or the air bag cushion might detach from the air bag module because of component misalignment within the module, according to a statement released by Ford.

Ford said it issued the safety compliance recall after supplier Takata informed the company that certain driver frontal air bag cushions installed in these vehicles may not inflate properly. This latest recall is unrelated to the Takata air bag inflators at risk for exploding.

In addition to the vehicles recalled in the U.S., 4,336 vehicles will be recalled in Canada for the same defect.

Ford dealers will replace the driver frontal air bag module in these vehicles at no cost to the vehicle owner. Ford’s number for this recall is 17C02.
