The BMW Group recently awarded Dr. Adrian Lund, president of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the BMW Vehicle Safety Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his work in the field of vehicle safety and occupant protection.

Lund accepted the award during a visit to the BMW Group’s Research and Innovation Center in Munich. Professor Klaus Kompass, vice president of the BMW Group’s vehicle safety division, made the presentation.

Lund has served as president of IIHS since 2006. He first joined the organization in 1981.

“For many years now, he has been one of the most well-known and influential experts in the field of accident research and traffic safety,” the BMW Group said in a released statement.

Earlier in his career, Lund worked as a psychologist researching the effects of alcohol and drugs on young drivers. He also helped develop restraint systems for vehicles and conducted research on the correlation between vehicle design and crashworthiness.
