General Motors is recalling 3,073 2014-2015 model-year Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks and 2015 Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe SUVs because of faulty ignition lock actuators.

In these vehicles, the ignition lock actuator may bind, making turning the key difficult or causing the ignition to get stuck in the “start” position, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.

If stuck in the “start” position, the ignition might suddenly snap back into the “accessory” position and lead to a loss of engine, steering and braking power, posing a safety risk. Additionally, the air bags may not deploy in the event of a crash, NHTSA said.

GM dealers will replace the ignition lock housing, free of charge. Vehicle owners can reach Chevrolet customer service at (800) 222-1020 or GMC customer service at (800) 462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 15573.
