Toyota Motor Sales USA is recalling approximately 421,000 RAV4 vehicles and 2,500 RAV4 EVs so dealers can address a problem that might damage the windshield wipers.

The RAV4 vehicles are in the 2009-2012 model years, and the RAV4 EVs are in the 2012-2014 model years.

“In the involved vehicles, water dripping onto the windshield wiper link can, over time, cause corrosion and wear at the wiper link joint,” Toyota explained. “In some cases this could result in the separation of the wiper link from the wiper motor crank arm. If separation occurs, the windshield wipers could become inoperative, which could reduce driver visibility and increase the risk of a vehicle crash.”

To resolve the issue, Toyota dealers will replace the water channel, wiper link and wiper motor crank arm with new ones.

Vehicle owners can reach Toyota customer service at (800) 331-4331.
