The all-new 2016 model-year Kia Sorento crossover has drawn a 5-Star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

To qualify for the highest overall rating, the compact SUV earned perfect 5-Star scores in both the frontal and side crash tests. The Sorento scored 4 Stars in the rollover evaluation.

The 5-Star overall rating refers to both the AWD and FWD versions of the vehicle.

MGA Research conducted the crash tests on March 23 as part of NHTSA’s New Car Assessment Program.

The redesigned Sorento features a structure that “increases torsional rigidity by 14 percent over the 2015 Sorento,” Kia Motors America said. “The unit body consists of 53 percent Advanced High Strength Steel, a 115-percent increase over the previous model.”
