Fiat Chrysler is recalling 5,660 2013-2015 model-year Fiat 500e electric cars because software incompatibility between components can result in stalling.

If the car goes into “limp home” mode, software incompatibility between the electric vehicle control unit and the battery pack control module might cause the electric propulsion system to fully shut down, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said. The result would be a stall-like condition, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fiat Chrysler dealers will update the vehicle software to ensure compatibility between the components. There will be no charge for this service.

The recall is set to begin May 15. Vehicle owners can reach Fiat Chrysler customer service at (800) 853-1403. The number for this recall is R15.
