FCA US is recalling 1,451 2013-2014 model-year Dodge Viper sports cars because their doors are at risk for opening unexpectedly while the vehicle is being driven, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.

The risk occurs after moisture gets into the door switch. Both the driver and passenger doors can be affected.

To resolve the problem, Dodge dealers will replace the door handle assemblies and top covers, free of charge.

The recall, set to begin May 18, covers Vipers manufactured from Oct. 1, 2012, to Feb. 6, 2014.

Vehicle owners can reach Fiat Chrysler customer service at (800) 853-1403. The FCA US number for this recall is R14.
