VIDEO: Iowa Bill Would Ban Driver Handheld Phone Use

Iowa legislators are considering legislation aimed at restricting driver phone use, but separate bills in the state House and Senate differ on whether drivers would be permitted to use handheld phones to make calls.

The House bill would ban driver handheld phone use. The Senate bill would still permit driver handheld phone use for conversations but would strengthen the current driver handheld texting ban by making it a primary offense. In other words, police officers could pull over a driver for the texting offense alone.
