NTSB Uses 'Deflate-Gate' to Discuss Tire Inflation

January 26, 2015

VIDEO: TireWise: Life of a Tire

In the wake of “Deflate-Gate,” American sports fans are now well versed on the proper inflation requirements for footballs – between 12.5 and 13.5 pounds per square inch – and what factors can feasibly alter that pressure. Unfortunately, most Americans aren’t quite as knowledgeable about the inflation requirements of their own vehicle’s tires.

This irony isn’t lost on Don Karol, director of NTSB’s Office of Highway Safety. Properly inflated tires prevent accidents and contribute to improved fuel economy.
