General Motors is recalling 8,208 2014 model-year Buick LaCrosse and Chevrolet Malibu sedans because the rear brake rotors might have been accidentally installed on the front, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This condition can lead to a shorter brake pad life.

The rear rotors, though the same diameter as the front ones, are thinner and may result in a front brake pad detaching from the caliper, NHTSA said.

To resolve the issue, GM dealers will make an inspection and replace any front rotors or brake pads if needed. There will be no charge for this service.

GM's number for the recall is 14128. Owners can reach the automaker's customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick) or 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet).
