Chrysler Group LLC announced plans to recall and inspect approximately 6,800 2014 model-year Ram ProMaster vans to determine whether a brake hose needs replacement. About half of the affected vehicles are still on dealers' lots.

A routine post-production test on one van revealed damage that could degrade brake performance, Chrysler said. The automaker attributed the damage to use of a specific wrench during assembly. That wrench is no longer used.

Chrysler expects less than 2 percent of the recalled vans to require repair. If damage is observed, the brake hose will be replaced. There will be no charge for this service.

Chrysler said it is unaware of any injuries, accidents or complaints linked to the problem.

Van owners can reach Chrysler Group at 1-800-853-1403.
