Ford Recalling Edge Crossovers to Replace Fuel Line

Ford Motor Co. is recalling 27,933 2012-2013 model-year Edge crossover SUVs with 2.0L engines to address a fire risk arising from potential fuel leaks, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.

Because of a manufacturing flaw, the fuel line pulse damper metal housing might crack, leading to a combination of fuel odor, seepage or a continuous leak while the fuel system is pressurized, NHTSA said. This condition poses a fire risk in the presence of an ignition source.

The recall covers Edge vehicles manufactured from Sept. 2, 2010, through April 25, 2013.

To remedy the problem, Ford dealers will replace the fuel line with one that doesn’t have a damper. There will be no charge for this service.

This safety recall is set to begin Feb. 28.

In September 2012, Ford also issued an Edge recall because of fuel leaks. Edge owners who responded to that recall should still respond to this one and make a dealer appointment for the remedy, Ford said.

In addition to the nearly 28,000 Edge vehicles in the U.S., Ford is also recalling approximately 3,400 in Canada and 13,500 in the Asia Pacific region.
