The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has recognized the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander, with its Top Safety Pick+ award for good performance in the small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, rollover, and rear crash evaluations. IIHS noted that Mitsubishi redesigned the Outlander for 2014.

IIHS said the Outlander is one of two small SUVs to earn a good rating in the organization’s new small overlap front test, with the other being the 2014 Subaru Forester. IIHS added that Mitsubishi improved rollover protection for this SUV, which helped the vehicle earn an IIHS “good” rating for roof strength (the previous model earned an “acceptable” rating), where the 2014 model’s roof was able to withstand a force equal to nearly five times the vehicle’s weight.

IIHS said the 2013-MY Outlander Sport also earned the organization’s Top Safety Pick+ designation earlier this year.
