Subaru Recalling Outback and Legacy Vehicles

May 15, 2013

Subaru of America Inc. is recalling 5,379 2013 model-year Outback and Legacy vehicles because of a potential steering problem, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.

The recall covers vehicles manufactured from Feb. 15, 2012, through June 15, 2012.

In these vehicles, the inner and outer shafts of the steering column assembly may become disengaged from one another. As a result, the driver could lose the ability to steer the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Subaru dealers will replace the steering column assembly with a new one, free of charge.

The recall is expected to begin around May 15. Owners can reach Subaru at 1-800-782-2783.
