Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc. is issuing two recalls – one involving 2013 model-year Outlander Sport vehicles and the other involving 2013 model-year Outlander Sport AWD vehicles, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.

Mitsubishi is recalling 4,539 2013 model-year Outlander Sport vehicles manufactured from June 11, 2012, through Sept. 11, 2012. The brake stop lamps might illuminate continuously or intermittently. The shift lever might also be moved out of Park without depressing the brake pedal. These conditions pose a safety threat.

To remedy the problem, dealers will correct the installation of the stop lamp switch. There will be no charge for this service.

Mitsubishi is also recalling 3,724 2013 model-year Outlander Sport AWD vehicles manufactured from June 11, 2012, through Dec. 11, 2012. These vehicles might have been built without a fuel sending unit harness for the sub-sending unit. This might result in a false fuel tank level reading.

To correct this issue, Mitsubishi dealers will install the proper fuel sending harness, free of charge.

Owners can reach Mitsubishi at 1-888-648-7820.
