WASHINGTON – Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling 499 2012 model-year E350 and E550 Coupe vehicles because improper stitching of the right-side window curtain airbag may prevent the airbag from deploying properly during a crash, the NHTSA said.

During a collision, the faulty stitching may cause the airbag to deflate too quickly, reducing its ability to protect an occupant.

Dealers will replace the right-side window curtain airbag in the recalled vehicles. This recall covers Mercedes-Benz E350 and E550 vehicles manufactured from April 2, 2012 through June 29, 2012.

The recall is expected to get under way in November. Vehicle owners can reach Mercedes-Benz at 1-800-367-6372.
