WASHINGTON – Utilimaster Corp., an Indiana-based manufacturer of walk-in vans and commercial truck bodies for the delivery and service marketplace, is recalling 9,861 work trucks because of a potential problem with the door locks.

The recall, due to get under way this week, involves 2009-2011 model-year Aeromaster and 2011 model-year Reach work trucks that were manufactured from Sept. 1, 2009 through Dec. 22, 2011.

Certain work trucks lack either a primary door latch system or a door latch system with a fully latched position and a door closure warning system, as required by federal safety standards, the NHTSA said. Without a door closure warning system, the driver may be unaware that the door is not fully latched.

To resolve the problem, Utilimaster dealers will repair the vehicles free of charge. Owners can reach Utilimaster at 1-800-582-3454.

Utilimaster is a subsidiary of Spartan Motors Inc.
