WASHINGTON – American Honda Motor Co. is recalling 5,216 2007-2011 model-year Element compact crossovers equipped with an accessory trailer hitch wiring harness, the NHTSA said. The recall is due to a potential problem with the trailer’s turn signal lights.

The wire that supplies power to the trailer turn signal lights was inadvertently switched with the stop lamp wire. As a result, the turn signals only illuminate when the brake lamps are illuminated.

Honda dealers will repair the vehicles free of charge. Element owners can reach Honda at 1-800-999-1009.
