The 2013-MY Audi A3.

INGOLSTADT, GERMANY – Audi reported that the Euro NCAP consortium has awarded the A3 the five-star rating for passive crash safety, which includes front, side, and rear impacts, and child safety and pedestrian protection.

The automaker stated that the vehicle’s specially designed front end and “active engine hood,” which rises in the event of a collision using a pyrotechnic release mechanism, helped the vehicle earn high marks in NCAP’s front crash testing. NCAP also noted the vehicle’s front seat seatbelt reminder and its rear seat design as contributing significantly to its overall safety.

Audi also noted vehicle features in addition to what NCAP measures, including standard daytime running lights, the vehicle’s available driver assistance systems (adaptive cruise control with pre-sense front collision functionality, active lane assist, side assist, and rest recommendations).
