WASHINGTON – Subaru of America Inc. is recalling 275,000 2009-2012 model-year Forester SUVs because their rear seat belts fail to permit proper installation and attachment of a child restraint in the seat. There’s a problem with the automatic locking retractor in the seat belt assemblies located in the rear center seating.

The vehicles covered in the recall were all manufactured from Nov. 26, 2007 through March 13, 2012, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Subaru will notify vehicle owners of the recall, and dealers will replace the rear center seat belt assembly with a newly modified automatic locking retractor. There will be no charge for this service.

This recall is expected to get under way around April 13. Subaru can be reached at (800) 782-2783.
