WASHINGTON – Hyundai Motor Co. is recalling 205,233 model-year 2007-2008 Veracruz and Santa Fe vehicles because of potential air bag failure, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The clock spring contact assembly for the driver’s air bag supplemental restraint system may become damaged through usage over time. The driver’s air bag electrical circuit could then experience a high resistance condition, potentially causing the driver’s air bag to fail to deploy during a collision.

Hyundai dealers will replace the driver’s air bag clock spring contact assembly if needed. There will be no charge for this service.

The Veracruz vehicles covered in this recall were all manufactured from Dec. 26, 2006 through March 21, 2008. The Santa Fe vehicles were all manufactured from April 19, 2006 through March 20, 2008.

Vehicle owners can reach Hyundai at (800) 633-5151.
