WASHINGTON - Kia Motors is recalling more than 35,000 MY 2011 Sorentos and MY 2010 Souls because of the risk of an electric short. This poses a fire hazard.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a limited number of wiring harnesses supplied by JCI may have been improperly soldered. The wiring harnesses in question are used for lighting the Kia Soul's speakers, located in the front door trim panels. They are used in the Kia Sorento for interior accent illumination, located in the front and rear door trim panels.

To remedy the problem, dealers will replace the wiring harnesses free of charge.

The safety recall begins this month. Kia can be reached at (800) 333-4542.
