DEARBORN, MI - Ford is recalling 33,728 of its 2010 Transit Connect cargo vans because of a safety issue with a component in the vehicle's headliner.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a notice stating that the Transit Connect is being recalled for failing to meet safety requirements for "occupant protection in interior impact." During testing, the vehicle exceeded head injury criteria requirements set by the standard.

According to the notice, "The headliner retention pushpin located on the headliner above the b-pillar trim on both the left and right side of the vehicles needs to be replaced."

In the event of a crash, the occupant could be at increased risk of injury due to the issue. All Transit Connect vehicles built from December 5, 2008 to May 31, 2010, at the Kocaeli, Turkey, plant are potentially affected. A recall notice is expected to go out to affected owners beginning July 19.
