WASHINGTON - Motor Coach Industries has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of a defect in more than 1,200 MY 1999-2010 E4500 and J4500 coaches equipped with a DOGA windshield wiper motor.

According to the NHTSA, the windshield wiper motor may fail to operate properly while the wiper system is functioning. As a result, the windshield wipers may operate intermittently, operate at a single speed only, or completely stop operating. This poses a safety risk.

The manufacturer is now developing a remedy for the problem, and the safety recall is expected to begin later this month.

Vehicle owners can reach MCI at (800) 241-2947.
